Latest Daredevil Sightings:

June 27: Daredevil spotted in Hell's Kitchen at 2:00am. Involved in fighting with group of thugs that were involved in arms deal. Police report states that they were carrying military grade weapons, and were selling very powerful arms. Police arrived to find thugs unconscious and the weapons left behind.

June 30: Daredevil spotted by woman who was mugged around 11:00pm heading home. She reports that a man took her purse from her and ran down an alley. Daredevil confronted the man in the alley, the man pulled his gun, and Daredevil knocked him out.

Who is Daredevil?

Who could this masked vigilante be? He has been spotted in mainly Hell’s Kitchen. He is trained highly in martial arts and has fought many armed people and came out unscathed. There is no sightings of him during the day, and he is only spotted at night. Is he a police officer? A man of power? A typical citizen? How could someone who spends his nights fighting crime and getting in such dangerous situations be unknown to everyone in New York City? How is he so aware of all of the crime going on in the city? Does he have powers like Thor? Or is he superhuman like Captain America?

The Real Question:

Is he a hero? He runs around the city and gets involved with crimes the police have no idea about. He has brought down gangs that the police has no chance of stopping. Though does that make him a hero? He is a vigilante. Vigilantism is not actually illegal in the United States, but many believe it to be in the way of the police. There are many laws that can be broken by a vigilante to make him/her a criminal. But there is so much corruption in New York City that maybe we need a hero like Daredevil. He could be the hero the people of New York City need. Though some may see him a villain, he has done more for this city than the police have been able to break through in the past five years. In my eyes, Daredevil is a true hero.

Endnotes:

I chose a blog for an idea of someone who is kind of obsessed with Daredevil, and tracks the sightings of him. The blogger poses questions and talks about how they feel about Daredevil and how he contributes to the safety in NYC. I use context from the article by Rainaldi to inspire a lot of the parts from the show and the ideas. I also use context from ““Vigilantism.” Law, Private, Vigilantes, and Justice - JRank Articles” and from the paper by Henderson concerning the “laws” surrounding vigilantism.
