Journal of Matt Murdock

 

May 17: Today Foggy and I had our first client, Karen Page. She was charged with stabbing her coworker to death in her apartment. She claims that she did not kill him, yet she was the only suspect and was found with the murder weapon. There’s just something off about this one, I can sense she’s telling the truth. It took a lot of convincing for Foggy to take this one with me, but we will do anything in our power to get her off these charges.

 

May 18: Last night I took to the streets. There was a mugging and I couldn’t let them get away with it. I tracked down the man who stole the family’s money at gunpoint, and took him down. I don’t know how to put this, but I enjoyed hurting him. I let all of my emotions into it fighting him and taking him down. I went too far. He’ll be in the hospital for weeks… Is what I’m doing right? I’m saving people and bringing down criminals, but I just put a man in the hospital for stealing some money from a family. I think I need a night off.

 

May 18(night): There was an attempt on Karen’s life. There’s something wrong with this, somebody wants her dead. I was able to take care of the attackers with only a bit of trouble, but I’m sure that won’t be the end of it. I must get to the end of this. I don’t think I’ll be taking any more nights off. There is someone out there who wants my client dead, and I’m the only one who can protect her from whoever is after her. Whoever it is has money, and manpower. It will take a lot from me to end this, but I must protect her and my city.

 

May 25: I took a case from the mysterious James Wesley, who wants us to protect an assassin. Foggy didn’t want any part of it, but I need to know who Wesley is working for. We got him off of all charges, but I took it upon myself I interrogate him tonight. I forced him to tell me who he is working for, some man named “Wilson Fisk”. I have never heard this name before and there’s no record on him existing. He doesn’t exist to the real world.

Endnotes: I chose to do this piece, even though Matt Murdock is blind and him having a journal is highly unlikely, because I wanted to have something from his point of view. In Daredevil you see everything from his eyes and you see how he struggles with everything. In the show there is a scene where he saves a girl who is getting abused by her father, and he beats him very badly, threatening him that if he does it again he’ll be back. The girl demands he stops and he does, Murdock later admits that he enjoyed hurting him. It puts a new perspective on if he is truly “Good or Evil”. Matt has a lot of issues on his own, and his Catholicism plays a large part
