Daredevil Scene

It was a dark night in Hell’s Kitchen, a neighborhood in Manhattan. The city was alive and people were out with friends, going home from work; living their day to day lives. At this time of night, many would be indoors, afraid to be on the streets where crime is at its highest. But the fear is now lost, with the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen watching over the city. He has brought down crime in Hell’s Kitchen and made criminals fear coming out at night. Except for this night…

11:00 pm:

“This is going to be the night of our lives” I heard from my friend behind me. It was my birthday. I just turned twenty-one and a couple friends and I were going out to celebrate. We were five blocks from the bar and the streets were starting to get quieter. As a group of three college age girls, we weren’t very comfortable walking down the streets of Hell’s Kitchen this late at night, but we couldn’t find a taxi for 2 blocks.

As we continued to towards the bar, I got the feeling that I was being watched. I couldn’t shake the feeling that every step, someone was watching. There were a few people on the street near us but I knew it wasn’t then. It was like we were being followed.

“Hey, you okay?” One of my friends asked. She could clearly tell something was off about me.

“I think so… Do you guys feel like we’re being watched? Or followed? I just can’t shake this feeling right now. You guys know how I feel about being out on the streets this late.” I responded.

“Please. If anyone is watching us, the mighty ‘Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’ will save the day!” my other friend said.

“Please, if I were in trouble I would want the police before him. How would he even know we’re in trouble. I think he just is in the right place at the right time.” I said.

“Whatever you say. You’re just paranoid. We’ll get a taxi soon, and if not it’s only like a fifteen minute walk from here. We’ll be fine.”

“Yeah.. I guess” I anxiously responded.

11:10 pm:

We were two blocks from the bar, but I still hadn’t shaken off my feeling. We had about four minutes left on our walk and there was nobody on the streets. It was dark and I was still anxious. As we were walking I heard footsteps and a large figure came out from an alley ahead of us. He just stood there as we walked closer until he raised his hand towards us.

“Stop! Give me your money!” The man yelled.

As we got closer we could see he had a gun in his hand, “If you make a move or scream I will shoot!”, the man yelled. I didn’t know what to do. My friends began crying and freaking out.

“Give him the money” we heard from two voices behind us. There were three of them. I tried to look around for anyone around but it was just us and them. We were hopeless. We started to go through our purses and hand them our money.

“That’s not enough. They have to come with us.” one of the men said. It was too dark to see their faces, and they were wearing ski masks with hoods pulled over their heads.

“No, no… please” One of my friends begged.

“Shut it!” One of the men yelled and he slapped my friend across the face. She dropped to the ground. He pointed his gun at her, “You don’t get to say anything. You’ll all keep your mouths shut and come with us.” He said.

As he went to pull my friend off the ground something hit him in the head and he dropped to the ground. The other men instantly began firing off their guns in all directions in confusion. As they stopped to reload a man jumped out of the alley and began fighting them. He was so quick and agile you could barely see him move. The men had no chance and took them down easily. As he turned around, I could see that it was the Daredevil.

“Th-.. thank you…” I mumbled.

He looked at me with no emotion and walked off. As he faded into the darkness we could hear police sirens. All three of the men were arrested and my friends and I were taken to the station to give statements on what happened.

I guess he really is a hero.

Endnotes: I wrote this based on the idea of a simple scene where a superhero saves the day. I wanted to give a real view on how even though he is a vigilante, Daredevil does good for the people of Hell’s Kitchen and gives them a feeling of safety, showing that he is good, not evil. Though he does enjoy beating the criminal, he also has a sense of remorse and realizes his wrongs.
